IV Sedation Dentistry
Dental anxieties keep many people from receiving the necessary dental care that they need. At River Peak Dental, we are proud to provide patients with IV sedation dentistry services in order to help patients relax at our office while they receive dental treatment. Dr. Chris Poe, DDS, is specifically trained to administer IV sedation here at our practice in order to thoroughly provide dental cleanings or any advanced dental treatment that patients require.
IV sedation dentistry allows patients to be put in a more deeply relaxed state than other sedation dentistry techniques. IV sedation uses medication that is administered intravenously in order to help patients reach a completely relaxed state. This is the strongest type of dental sedation, and it is recommended for those who suffer from extreme fear or anxiety. The medication goes to work very quickly, and it allows Dr. Poe and his team the ability to provide thorough treatment. Patients will not actually be asleep, but they will lay back in the dental chair and find themselves fully relaxed and at ease.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation uses a medication taken orally in order to help patients relax throughout dental procedures. Patients will remain awake, but they will find themselves in a state of relaxation that puts them at ease. Many patients will often slur their words and become slightly drowsy. Oral conscious sedation is the most common type of dental sedation, and it has allowed countless numbers of dental patients receive the dental care that they need without an overwhelming fear or anxiety plaguing them throughout the procedure.
Nitrous oxide, commonly referred to as “laughing gas,” is the lightest form of dental sedation available, and it has proven effective to help many patients relax at the dentist’s office. This gas is inhaled through an oxygen mask placed over the nose as you sit in the dental chair. Nitrous oxide helps those who are a little bit anxious simply sit back and find themselves comfortable. Nitrous oxide is the only form of dental sedation where patients may be able to drive themselves home after the appointment. It is important that you ask the staff at River Peak Dental about driving arrangements prior to your appointment.
Sedation dentistry has provided many people the opportunity to visit the dentist without a state of fear. If you have put off any dental treatment (even a simple dental cleaning) due to anxiety or fear, please ask us about sedation dentistry.
